book review

“First quarter outside reading book review”
The Road by :Cormac McCarthy. Alfred A. Knopf, 2006
Genre: Fiction
The road is one of many of Cormac McCarthy’s novels that he wrote. The road Is fiction and it basically is about a man and his son that are surviving to try to not die from the horrid weather and lack of food. The setting of this is on a road and up in the mountains. The boy consonantally sees people who look like they need help and wants to save them and have them go with the man and the boy.
“Vivid, eloquent… the road is the most readable of McCarthy’s work, and consistently brilliant in its imagining of the posthumous condition of nature and civilization.” the book jack says, “one of McCarthy’s best novels, probably his most moving perhaps his most personal.”
I like in the book when a man from his little gang thing from the truck comes and the guys comes over near the man and the boy, and the man puts a gun up to him and says,” what are you doing here?” “I need to take a crap, he said” that made me laugh. The author is very descriptive with all of the surroundings. Another part that creeped me out was when they went down into the cellar and saw all the naked men and women there hiding because the reason they are down there is because people are going to eat them. Cannibalism is messed up. This book reminded me of a series I read called Curque Du freak because it described every person and object very well. The road also had blood and so did the other book I told you about. When the man was coughing up blood because he was sick and didn’t have enough food was disgusting.
“ they could be alive somewhere, the man said. Its possible. The boy didn’t answer. They went on. They’d wrapped there feet in sailcloth and bound them up in blue plastic pampooties cut from a tarp and they left strange tracks in there comings and going. He thought about the boy and his concerns and after a while he said: you’re probably right. I think they’re probably dead.” pg 243.
I liked this book because the topic of the book really kept me reading it and the book affected me how at the end the father dies which was depressing and how the man invited the boy to live with him and his family. In this story I enjoyed that the author was very descriptive with almost everything he talks about. Its either he setting, the characters, or the lake that they went into. So overall this was a interesting book that I read.

Wake Up and Listen by Chris M

Everyone has certain values to themselves. Some people have very expensive values like a car or a boat or something very massive. Other people have little things like a hand-woven sweater or a necklace. It may be small but have lots of value to the person. Mine are kind of like that. Have you ever asked yourself, why do people really need such big stuff? How does this make it valuable to you? What makes something valuable? What is value to you?
I open my eyelids and feel the breeze from the fan smoothly pressing on my face. I gently get up and rub my finger tips on my eyes to get the sand off and I go to the bathroom for a 30 second piss. Take a nice hot shower and use my new Gillette shampoo and some old spice body wash. Then dry off and go downstairs and that's where my morning starts.
First I find my black 30 gig ipod video and plug each of the two earplugs in my ears slowly as I turn on the ipod. I hit the center button and scurl around the artist section. Looking for either some Lil Wayne song or T.I. I see a song called My Life (feat. Lil Wayne) by the Game. I click the center button and listen to all five minute and twenty seconds. As I do that I toast a bagel with cream cheese on it, with a tall glass of orange juice. That kind of food is only for the weekdays when I have school but on the weekend when my whole family is home then we have a nice hot meal. Bacon that is greasing on top of the broiler sizzling and popping. Quarter inch thick Bisquick pancakes made from a heated pan. Warm and steamy right from the pan. Orange juice with maybe a mug of hot chocolate.
"Get like me, stunting is a habit have you ever seen a Chevy with butterfly doors," my cell phone rings and it’s a new text message. I and constantly on my phone either talking to people or texting. I love my phone. It is and envy 2 black. It has a key board and it has the Internet. My phone is very valuable to me and my family. The reason why it is important to my family because if they need to reach me for some reason then they can call me. I hate losing my phone; I lose it all of the time in my house. It is either under my couch or in random cabinets or some other weird place.
Sometimes while I'm in the shower I put my ipod into a speaker system and then I Blair some Lil Wayne or any kind of rap. It wakes me up and it gets me pumped to start the day. While I scrub my hair and rock out. I even have a shower mix that I made. Just so I could listen to my music. Some say I'm addicted by I'm just in love with it.
My morning is very special and relaxing to me. If I don't have a good morning then I get cranky. I need to listen to my music and have my phone on me at all times.
